Apple passes on Samsung in smartphone sales volume
Apple and Samsung will be eternal rivals, not only in court , also in the mobile device market. The latest data released by the firm Gartner show that Apple has surpassed in market share to Samsung during the fourth quarter of 2016 .
Gartner has released its latest report related to the smartphone industry during the fourth quarter of 2016, also known as Q4 2016. According to data reported in this report, worldwide sales of smartphones to users reached 432 million units In that quarter , an increase of 7% over the same period of the previous year.
But without a doubt, the most remarkable fact of this report is that during this Q4 2016 Apple has surpassed Samsung, becoming the number one worldwide supplier of smartphones . A new blow for Samsung, it seems that does not finish lifting head of a time up here.
Apple overtakes Samsung on smartphone sales in Q4 2016
During the fourth quarter of 2016 Apple sold around 77 million iPhone , while in the same period of the previous year sold 71.5 million units. That growth has prompted Apple to get a 17.9% share of the smartphone market , 2% more than in Q4 2015.
Meanwhile , Samsung has seen its sales increase from 83.4 million units in the fourth quarter of 2015 to 76.7 million in Q4 2016. This means a drop in its market share of 20.7% 17.8%, remaining only 1% below its main competitor.
Gartner research director Anshul Gupta comments that "Apple has taken 8 quarters to reclaim the world's top smartphone maker, but the positions of the two competitors have never been so close . " And is that currently only 256,000 smartphone units separate Apple from Samsung in this ranking .
In addition, it should be noted that Apple and Samsung top the list with a large difference in market share with respect to the third company , which follows quite behind them:

Throughout 2016, sales of smartphones touched 1.500 million units , representing a growth of 5% over the previous year. For its part, Apple shipped 216.06 million units, which translates into a 14.4% market share.
Both companies globally during 2016 have lost market share. Samsung has suffered a 2% drop, but Apple saw its share went from 15.9% to 14.4%, as shipments dropped by 9 million units .
This loss of market share has fallen to the benefit of the new Chinese manufacturers who are treading very strong, as is the case of Huawei and Oppo . Both companies registered an increase in their presence in the world market in 2016.
