The new iMac 4K 21.5 "has 8GB of RAM at 2400 MHz, expandable to 16 GB, a Radeon Pro 555 graphics card with 2 GB of video memory and 1 TB of hard drive. Its price is € 1,499.

The iFixit company has unmounted this iMac discovering that the RAM and CPU are not soldered to the motherboard The procedure consisted of:
  1. The sticker that secures the 4K screen to the base of the iMac and its subsequent removal of the power supply, hard drive and fan was cut off. When done, it was discovered that RAM modules are not soldered to the motherboard like their previous models, but instead two removable slots are located.
  2. The next step was to extract the heat sink and power from the back of the motherboard, realizing that the built-in processor, Intel Core i5-7400, is in a standard socket of the CPU, so it is Possible to be replaced or updated without specific machines to melt welds.
As iFixit points out, an up-gradable iMac is a breakthrough by Apple . The latest 21.5 "iMac with replaceable RAM was the 2013 model, while the latest to include a modular CPU came in 2012.

In spite of this, Apple officially considers that these pieces are not substitutable by the user, given the relative difficulty to access these components . In addition, even though the RAM and CPU are upgradeable, iFixit has given this iMac a score of 3 out of 10, with 10 being the easiest to repair. This is a consequence of, as we said before, the difficulty of accessing the components, although if we compare it with its old model of 2015, which was given a score of 1 out of 10, it has improved.
Other minor changes discovered in this disassembly have been the inclusion of a single microphone , when previously there were two dual microphones, a replaceable battery and a 3.5-inch hard drive . Also, it lacks an SSD connector .
