Apple already has licenses to test 5G technology

From today, Apple will be able to start testing the 5G technology . The FCC has granted the Cupertino company a license to test the next generation of 5G wireless technologies, as reported by our DSLReports colleagues today .

5G technology can be tested by Apple

In May, Apple introduced the first application to access one of the pilot licenses to test wireless technology in millimeter (5G) waveband bands .

The future of mobile phones is 5G technology
Millimeter wavebands provide greater bandwidth and performance up to 10 Gb / s , however, these are limited by line problems that can cause problems in urban areas with large populations.
If we see a part of the license granted to the Cupertino by the FCC we see the main objective to carry out their tests with the technology 5G:
"Apple Inc. seeks to assess the performance of the cellular link in direct and multipath environments between transmitters of base stations and receivers using this spectrum. These assessments will provide engineering data relevant to the operation of the devices in future wireless operators' 5G networks. Apple intends to be able to transmit from two fixed points located in the facilities controlled by Apple in Cupertino and Milpitas ", according to its request of the FCC.

More details on the permission granted to test the 5G technology

Apple said in its petition that it will conduct its tests for a period not exceeding 12 months. Californians will be able to use the 28 GHz and 39 GHz bands , which have been open by the FCC since last year so that technology companies that requested it could access 5G broadband.

Cupertino's are testing 5G technology
It's not entirely clear why Apple plans to test millimeter-wave performance, but will join other competitors such as Google, Facebook and some of the top US cell phone companies such as AT & T, Verizon, Sprint or T-Mobile in the test Of this technology. Apple's goal seems quite clear, Cupertino's look to be able to implement the next generation of mobile technology in the coming years, however, this technology will take some time to see the light.
Although many rumors suggest that the California company might be preparing to add this new mobile technology to the next iPhone , the truth is that 5G technology will not arrive this year . Another interesting fact about Apple's request is that it has been hiring different specialized people with different experience in space satellites.
Recall that the band of 28GHz has been destined in many occasions to the transmissions between the earth and the satellites in the space, an area that Apple could be interested to try, the question is why does Apple want to penetrate in this type of technology? , What news could this band add to future Apple devices? Will it have something to do with these technologies in a possible autonomous vehicle tomorrow ?, there is nothing clear so I only recommend that you are aware of all these News through our website.
