Thanks to the new digital canon we will pay more for an iPhone

Yesterday, July 3, came into force in Spain the new digital canon, which comes to be a tax that applies to smartphones, tablets, hard disks and all those devices that serve to store content, such as DVDs.
There are similar precedents in Spain, since in 2010 was approved another digital canon that ended up being repealed by the Padawan ruling. This ruling stated that the tax could not be levied on devices that were used by companies, so that because it was not known which were sold to companies and which to individuals, this fee could not be applied in a fair way.

How much extra expense is this digital canon?

We are aware that everything that sounds like a canon, tax, tax and other words that remind us of Hacienda may make us think that we are going to put a good stroke in the pocket, but we are happy to tell you that is not the case. With this new digital royalty will be manufacturers who have to decide on who is responsible for paying this tax, and as almost always, most likely those who have to pay directly are the consumers.
With the new digital canon our bags 'will suffer' a little more when buying a new electronic device.

Do not be alarmed, we know that you are thinking that you are going to have to take out your savings to be able to face this fee if you want to buy a new mobile, but as we have said, it is not, as the extra expense will be quite small:
  • The CDs and DVDs will increase their price by 21 cents, which may mean the end of their days, since if they are used every day less people with this new levy could fall more forgetful if it fits.
  • The tablets have a slightly steeper rise, of 3.15 euros.
  • The smartphones will suffer a rise of 1.10 euros, and tell us that is not much and rightly so, but it will be here when we realize how much companies and manufacturers are willing to take this expense. Do not you think it would be rather 'ugly' for you to charge this minimum supplement on your buyers?
  • Hard disks are the most affected by this Royal Decree-Law, since its final price will be 12 euros more than before.
Hard disks and SSD, with their rise of 12 euros, are the most affected by this digital canon.

And here comes the price hikes of electronic devices coming from the hand of this new digital canon. On the one hand, to say that although these increases in the price are not very high, yes they are carried out in a sector of this market that is of the most copados of users, so the time will tell us as it feels this among the buyers . And you, what do you think of the price increases that the new digital canon? Do you think they are appropriate or do you consider any of them abusive?
