How is the iPhone 8/8 Plus different from the iPhone 7/7 Plus?

As you know, unless you who have been held incommunicado all this week, Apple Tuesday unveiled new iPhones: the iPhone in August , the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X .
No doubt the star of the 12-day keynote was the new iPhone X , with its new design, its huge 5.8-inch OLED screen that occupies the entire front, its revolutionary TrueDepth front camera system that allows the new recognition system facial Face ID ... and its very high price (in Spain, we will have to pay a minimum of € 1,159, which is what costs the model of 64 GB).
With all the new features of the brand new iPhone X, the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus have been left in the shade. After all, so with the naked eye, do not differ too much from the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus, at least in its design.
Is it worth buying an iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus if we have an iPhone 7/7 Plus? We tell you what is the same and what has changed in the new generation of the LCD iPhone.

iPhone 8/8 Plus and iPhone 7/7 Plus: This is what has not changed

Touch ID: Both generations maintain the Touch ID, unlike their brother OLED, the iPhone X, which has replaced it with Face ID.
Front Cameras: They are exactly the same, with a 7 Mpx sensor with ƒ / 2.2 aperture, Retina flash, and 1080p HD video recording. Unfortunately, the iPhone 8 Plus does not support Portrait Mode on its front camera, nor do the new Animoji: these are exclusive features of the iPhone X.

Water resistance: Although the rumors indicated that the new iPhones would have IP68 certification, in the end it has not been so, and they still have the IP67 certification that already had the iPhone 7/7 Plus.
Autonomy: According to Apple says, the iPhone 8/8 Plus have the same autonomy as their predecessors.
Finally, the iPhone 8/8 Plus have a Lightning connector, but have no Jack connector , exactly the same as the iPhone 7/7 Plus.

iPhone 8/8 Plus vs iPhone 7/7 Plus: Differences

screen

The iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus have Retinal LCD HD, like their predecessors, and retain the same resolution, as well as almost all other specifications, such as contrast, 3D Touch, wide color gamut (P3), and the maximum brightness of 625 cd / m2.
However, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus also have screens with True Tone technology, which automatically adapts the color and intensity of the screen to fit the ambient light.

Rear camera

Both the iPhone 8/8 Plus and the iPhone 7/7 Plus have exactly the same specifications on the paper. The iPhone 8 Plus camera, however, has a novelty with respect to the iPhone 7 Plus: the new Portraits Lighting feature, which is still in beta.
That said, Apple says the cameras of its new devices have been upgraded from those of the previous generation, with a larger and faster sensor, a new color filter, and more pixel depth.

Material of the rear part

This is the only difference in the design of the new iPhones: both the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus have the rear glass, with aluminum edges. According to Apple, the glass used for its new terminals is the most resistant ever used on a smartphone, and carries a coating that makes it 50% tougher.

performance

The iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus carry the new Aion Bionic chip from Apple, which has two high performance cores that are 25% faster, and four high efficiency, which are 70% faster than the A10 Fusion iPhone 7/7 Plus. In addition, the A11 Bionic chip has a neuron motor and an M11 motion coprocessor more powerful than the M10 of the A10 Fusion chip.

Wireless charge

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus support wireless charging based on the Qi standard. The new terminals can be charged using an inductive charging base, such as those made especially for the new Mophie and Belkin iPhone, or Apple's AirPower charging station, which will be launched later.

Fast charge

The new iPhones support fast charging, which means they can get 50% charge in just 30 minutes, but that's why we need to use the USB-C power adapters of 29 W, 61 W or 87 W of Apple , plus a USB-C to cable, and we will have to buy separately.

Video recording

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus record video in 4K at 24, 30 or 60 f / s. In contrast, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus can only record video in 4K at 30 f / s.

Bluetooth

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have Bluetooth 5.0, while the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus have Bluetooth 4.2.

Less colors to choose from

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are only available in three colors: silver, space gray and a new golden tone. Instead, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus can be purchased in matte black, glossy black, gold, rose gold and silver.

As you can see, despite what may seem at first sight, the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus have enough news regarding their predecessors. Are they enough to justify buying it if we have the iPhone 7/7 Plus? that already depends on each one, of course.
The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus can be booked from tomorrow, September 15, at 9:01 am Spanish time . Their prices are as follows:
  • iPhone 8 64GB: € 809
  • iPhone 8 256GB: 979 €
  • iPhone 8 Plus 64 GB: € 919
  • iPhone 8 Plus 256 GB: € 1,089
