Downloading an FTP Program
Find an FTP program you want to use. File Transfer Protocol programs give you access to the system and file directory of your device. Using FTP programs, you can transfer files and install applications directly from your computer to your iOS device. Some FTP programs you can use are:
- iExplorer (http://www.macroplant.com/iexplorer/)
- Cyberduck (https://cyberduck.io/)
- i-Fun Box (http://www.i-funbox.com/)
Download the FTP program of your choice. Click the links to download an FTP program installer you like on your computer.
Run the installer. Open the downloaded file to launch the installation wizard, which will install the FTP program on your computer. Wait for the installation process to complete.
Launch the FTP program you downloaded once the installation finishes. Click the program’s desktop icon to launch it.
2: Installing DEB Files
Connect your iOS device to your computer. Plug the data cable to the port on your iPod, iPhone, or iPad. Take the other end of the cable and plug it into a USB port on your computer.
Find the “Cydia” folder inside your iOS device. Open your device’s file directory using your FTP program and go inside the “Var” folder to find another folder labeled “Root.” Open this to see the last folder you need to open labeled “Media.” Inside you’ll see the “Cydia” folder (address: “var/root/Media”).
Open the “Cydia” folder. Tap on the folder and you should find another one labeled “AutoInstall.”
If can’t see one, just create a new folder here and label it as “AutoInstall.”
Copy the DEB files you want to install inside the “AutoInstall” folder. Wait for the FTP program to finish copying all the DEB files into your device.
Disconnect your device from your computer. Just remove the cable connecting the two devices.
Restart your device at least twice. After the second restart you should be able to see and launch the DEB package you installed from the Springboard.
